Bridgetown Entry Requirements

Bridgetown Entry Requirements

Visa, immigration, and customs information

Important Notice Entry requirements can change at any time. Always verify current requirements with official government sources before traveling.
Touching down at Grantley Adams International Airport, you'll feel warm trade-wind air swirl across the tarmac while the sweet scent of sugar-cane smoke drifts from nearby fields. Bridgetown's immigration hall greets you with coral-pink walls, echoing calypso beats overhead, and officers whose lilting Bajan accents guide you toward the stamped blue ink of entry. Most visitors need only a passport valid for six months and a return ticket. The process is swift. But knowing the exact categories and allowances keeps the queue short and the welcome smile wide. Whether you're heading straight to Bridgetown hotels along Carlisle Bay or plotting things to do in Bridgetown before sunset, entry rules set the tone for your entire stay.

Arrival Process

After the jet-bridge you'll smell jet fuel mixing with salty sea air while overhead fans push humid air across your face. Bridgetown immigration officers sit beneath a mural of flying fish. Have documents ready to keep the line moving.

1
Primary Immigration
Present passport, return ticket and, if required, ETA letter. Officer scans passport, snaps your photo and asks purpose of visit.
2
Baggage Claim
Carousels sit steps away. Steel drums sometimes echo as porters rehearse rhythms behind the scenes.
3
Customs Channel
Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel otherwise. Sniffer dogs weave past, nosing for fresh fruit or meat.
4
Exit to Arrivals
Glass doors slide open to reveal a wall of humid air scented with coconut sunscreen and the sight of taxi dispatchers in crisp khaki.

Tips for Smooth Entry

Fill out the white customs form on the plane. Flight attendants hand them out after the captain's first Bajan greeting.
Keep a pen handy. Borrowing one slows the queue.
If you need a taxi to Bridgetown hotels, buy a voucher at the dispatch desk, fixed fare beats haggling in the humid night air.

Customs & Duty-Free

Bridgetown customs officers wear navy shirts with the trident crest. They eye bulky suitcases and will ask you to open any cooler that smells of spice or smoke.

Alcohol
1 litre of spirits OR 1 litre of wine
Must be 18 years or older. Bottles will be inspected for factory seals.
Tobacco
200 cigarettes OR 50 cigars OR 250 g loose tobacco
Officers may count cigars individually if rings look hand-rolled.
Currency
Declare cash, cheques or negotiable instruments totaling BBD 10,000 or more
Form available at red channel. Undeclared sums can be seized.

Not mandatory. But private cover is strongly advised; EHIC/GHIC cards are not valid here and hospital deposits are expected up-front.
